Inside the Rebrand: How I Helped Restoration & Recreation Find Their Voice Online
Portfolio | Web Design | Copywriting | Branding
Some projects come along that feel like more than just a job — they feel like a genuine opportunity to make a difference. My work with Restoration & Recreation was exactly that.
Restoration & Recreation is a Virginia-based therapeutic services practice founded by Tory Rogers, a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and Executive Functioning Coach with nearly two decades of experience. Tory and her team of licensed counselors and recreation therapists serve individuals and families across Virginia — helping people build social skills, regulate emotions, improve executive functioning, and reclaim a quality of life that feels worth living.
The work they do is meaningful, specialized, and deeply human. The website needed to reflect that.

The Starting Point
When Tory first came to me, her website was functional — but it wasn’t telling her story. It had dated information (as her business had evolved since first starting her website), and she just didn’t know how to make the depth and heart of what her practice offers come through to her potential clients. For a practice that works with families navigating some of life’s most complex challenges, that disconnect mattered.
She needed more than a visual refresh. She needed a complete reimagining of how Restoration & Recreation showed up online — from the words on the page to the way the brand felt the moment someone landed on the site.
That’s where I came in.
What We Worked On
This was a wide-ranging engagement that touched nearly every corner of her digital presence. Here’s a breakdown of what the project included:
Brand Strategy & Messaging Before a single page was written or designed, we dug into the heart of the brand. Who is Restoration & Recreation for? What makes them different? What do they want a first-time visitor to feel when they land on the site? What is the flow of intake from prospective to active client?
We identified their core differentiators — Tory’s dual expertise as both a Recreation Therapist and Executive Functioning Coach, the holistic and family-centered approach, the DD Waiver accessibility, and the deeply human team behind the practice. Those became the pillars that everything else was built around.
Logo Modernization The original logo had good bones — a botanical motif, a strong “R,” and a circular composition — but it needed to be brought into the present. I modernized the design with a refined color gradient, sleeker leaf shapes, and cleaner typography that felt more polished and professional while honoring the original’s warmth and identity.

Font & Visual Identity We established a cohesive font pairing to carry throughout the site — balancing professionalism with warmth, which was the core tone the brand needed to strike. The visual identity was built to feel trustworthy and clinical enough for referral partners, while remaining approachable and human for the families seeking support.

Website Copywriting This was the heart of the project. I wrote or rewrote copy for every major page of the site, including:
- Homepage
- Services (Executive Functioning Coaching, DD Waiver Services)
- Our Team
- FAQs
- Contact
- Careers
- Blog content (not yet published, but in progress)
Every word was written with two audiences in mind: the families and individuals looking for support, and the referral partners and professionals who might send clients their way. The tone needed to bridge both of these — warm and accessible, but credentialed and clear.
A major focus was emotional connection. People don’t arrive at a therapeutic services website because things are going great. They arrive because something is hard. The copy needed to meet them there — to say I see you, this is the right place, and help is here.
In addition, I focused on how to simplify the information so that it was easy to follow. Anytime we talk about onboarding and phone calls and starting services, it can be confusing for the new client. I wanted to take what could be seen as a complex process and simplify it. Not only is this helpful for the future clients, but it creates a funnel and systematic approach that the team at Restoration & Recreation can follow. Business coaching and digital messaging all in one!
Some of my favorite lines from the project:
“You don’t have to keep struggling through it. Let’s talk about what’s possible.”
“You deserve a life you actually enjoy.”
“Restoring function. Rekindling joy.”

Team Bios Restoration & Recreation has a talented, diverse team of therapists and counselors serving clients across Virginia. Each team member submitted a bio in their own words — and my job was to honor their voice while elevating the presentation. I restructured each bio into three consistent sections: Specializations, Approach, and Bio — creating a cohesive, professional team page that still felt personal and distinct for each individual.

FAQ Page One of the most practically impactful pieces of the project was a comprehensive FAQ page, organized into two sections: Getting Started (for new visitors figuring out if R&R is the right fit) and About Our Services (for those ready to go deeper). This page was built to reduce friction, answer the questions people are too nervous to ask, and guide visitors toward booking.

Forms, Images, Ads, and Social Media Touches While not completing a full service social media setup, there were some additional assets that I set up for R&R:
- Print-ready advertisements
- Facebook page header
- Facebook profile picture
- Branded forms – referral and onboarding
- Hiring advertisement image
Sandbox Training Page As a final touch, I created a dedicated sandbox page within Squarespace — a private space where Tory can experiment with design elements, try new layouts, and explore the platform freely without risking any changes to the live site. For a client who is still growing her confidence with the platform, this was a simple but meaningful addition.
The Result
The finished website is a true reflection of what Restoration & Recreation is — a practice that is credentialed and clinical, but deeply human. A team that shows up for the whole person, not just the diagnosis. A place where families can land and immediately feel like they’ve found what they’ve been looking for.

What I Learned
Every project teaches me something, and this one was no exception. Working in the therapeutic and wellness space requires a particular kind of care with language — words matter deeply when your audience is navigating hard things. I loved the collaboration with Tory. I would often come up with several ideas and ask for her opinion on what felt the most like her and her business. We worked well together with check lists and punch lists, especially as the project came close to the end.
I came away from this project with a deeper appreciation for the work that recreation therapists, counselors, and coaches do every day, and a sharper instinct for writing copy that leads with empathy first.
It also reinforced something I already believed: the best website projects aren’t really about websites at all. They’re about helping someone show up online in a way that finally matches who they actually are.
